Book marketing can be daunting. Many writers find themselves stressed about the how and whens of book marketing before their book is even written. Who do I market to? When and where should I do it? Are there specific terms I should use when speaking to potential readers vs. booksellers? These are all valid questions, and pondering them early on is actually a great way to start shaping a marketing plan that feels aligned with your goals. By addressing these details, you'll begin to carve out a path that makes the marketing process feel more manageable and intentional.

If you are a first time author, aspiring author, or author OG, it's important that you have the fundamentals of a marketing plan for your book. Although the book is firstly for you, it does not and should not, end there. Your book is a part of your brand and your legacy. It deserves to be seen, to be read, to be digested, and felt deeply, but the only way people will know about it, is if it is marketed well.

Here are some things to consider in order to identify a marketing plan that works for you and makes sense for your book:

1. What is your overall vision for your book?

2. Do you have a title for your book?

3. Who is your target audience?

4. What genre would you classify your book?

5. Do you have a vision for the book's cover?

6. What specific events are you planning for the release of the book?

7. What would make you deem your book a success?

8. What do you hope the reader will gain from reading this book?

9. What's your book marketing timeline?

10. What are you good at?

Reflecting on the answers to these questions will help you gain clarity and direction as you begin to craft a marketing strategy that aligns with both your vision and your book's unique essence. No matter where you are in your author journey, having a clear sense of purpose and intention behind your marketing efforts will ensure that your book reaches the right audience at the right time. So, take a moment to breathe, reflect, and envision your book's success—not just as a product, but as a story that deserves to be shared. You've put the work in, now let the world experience your words. And remember, this journey doesn't have to be overwhelming; step by step, you'll find your rhythm and build the strategy that feels right for you. Let's get started!
